Julie Snyder-Yuly earned her B.S. in psychology from the University of Iowa and a M.S. in Interdisciplinary Graduate Studies focusing on communication studies, industrial technology (training and development) and sociology from Iowa State University. Her thesis on harassment prevention training received an Iowa State University Research Excellence Award.

Snyder-Yuly currently serves as the assistant director of the Carrie Chapman Catt Center. She is responsible for managing the Center's new Certificate in Leadership and Public Service. As part of that position she teaches "Leadership Styles and Strategies in a Diverse Society" (LAS 222) each fall, teaches "Women and Leadership" (WS 333) every other spring and is working to develop an online courses for the certificate program. In addition, Snyder-Yuly coordinates the Archive of Women's Political Communication, writes and lays out the Center's newsletter Voices, oversees the Plaza of Heroines and coordinates much of the event planning for the Center. 

She is a former Women's Studies teaching assistant for "Introduction to Women's Studies" (WS 201) and has taught additional women's studies courses and "Gender, Race and Ethnicity in the Media." Her research interests include body image, women in the media, sexual harassment/assault issues, and leadership. She is the co-author of "Any Four Black Men Will Do: Rape, Race, and the Ultimate Scapegoat" which received a top 4 paper award at Western States Communication Association and was published in the Journal of Black Studies.

In 1998, she joined the staff of the Carrie Chapman Catt Center. Previously, she was the training coordinator at Alliance Glass Network in Cedar Rapids, where she was in charge of training new employees and the on-going training of current employees. She has recently won several awards for her photography and stained glass.
